viv with soap bubbles

Viviane Schwarz just showed me this painting technique using gum arabic, which was a great break from painting the big, daunting double-page spread I’m doing for a picture book. It didn’t entirely work the way we thought it would, but it still looks kind of nice.

As for the drawing, the postman arrived today with a copy of The King’s Shopping, and I did the drawing kind of in that style. It’s a book I really wanted to see because it’s illustrated by Warwick Johnson Cadwell (who drew the picture of Morris last week). I’m going to read it after dinner tonight.

Aw, thanks! I’m ripping off WJC’s way of drawing the face here, so I can’t entirely claim credit for that one, but it’s still fun to play around. 🙂

I love the fact you can buy that book for £3.59 or £0.01p new or used for £0.01p. You’re enormously nice to me here, it’s not deserved.
