Cover art: Wished, by Lissa Evans
Congratulations to Lissa Evans on her upcoming children's book, Wished, which launches April 7th! Here's the cover I drew, working with designer Alison Gadsby at David Fickling Books. The interior illustrations are by Bec Barnes (which I haven't actually seen yet, but are sure to be ace).
You can read an in-depth review of Wished by Ben Harris here, and another review by Miss Cleveland here. I went through lots of different covers for DFB, it wasn't an easy process! But you can see some of the work-in-progress versions here. We started out with one idea (the cake) which got worked up to completion, then went through lots of other rough versions (not all shown here), until eventually a version with a pared-back colour palette got the official sign-off. The final artwork is dip-pen and ink, scanned, with digital colouring.
Lissa's tweet (with added foil!):
And here are the three other Lissa covers I've done. I don't agree to do covers very often - there's a lot of commmittee work and decisions involved and they always take longer than I budget time for. But it's great when I get the chance to see them out in the wild.
