Adventuremice: Otter Chaos London bookshop tour
The past couple days were a whirlwind of Adventuremice: Otter Chaos in London. Huge thanks to our publicists at David Fickling Books, Fraser Hutchinson and Liz Scott for arranging everything for us! Other than our big launch event at Daunt Books Marylebone, I think my favourite stop was Waterstones Piccadlly (Europe's largest bookshop, with over 8 miles of bookshelves!), where Lucy the bookseller let us draw a big mouse ship on one of the columns in the children's section.
Check it out, it's right under a fab drawing by Liz Pichon! I started out small with drawing Pedro, but then I realised we had the right pens and that I could really go for it, so I added the big ship.
Thanks to Lucy for hosting our book signing, and Danie Ware, who stopped by from the Graphic Novel/Manga section to say hello!
If you stop by, there's a big pile of signed books (including a big stack of my new Faber Book of Bedtime Stories, and Philip's Utterly Dark books).
Together with Fraser (who'd come to London via bus because of the rail strike - that's commitment!), we stopped by Foyles on Charing Cross Road, a shop I've been visiting since I started talking night classes in Children's Book Illustration at Central Saint Martins (which used to be next door), over 20 years ago! It was great chatting with booksellers Sally and Fin, and we brought Philip's otter and the little felt mouse we were given by Bronnie & Bob of Bookwagon UK.
Next stop with Fraser: Forbidden Planet, where we signed lots of books in the back room with Marc, Mars and Ana. Philip had a good chat with a Mortal-Engines superfan, and I got to see a drawing Alan Lee had left behind during his signing.
We popped into Waterstones Covent Garden, where we'd had several excellent previous book launches - at least three of my picture books including Grumpycorn and the first Kevin book (where we painted the window!). Thanks for hosting our signing, Ellie!
And we couldn't miss Gosh Comics, who have been supportive of my work since my early comic days! Here we are with booksellers Bryn and Emma.
Here's Fraser, who went around with us, in front of Waterstones Tottenham Court, where we did yet another signing! Thanks for all your time and patience, Fraser!
