Adventuremice at The Harbour Bookshop, Kingsbridge

For the next part of our Adventuremice Southwest Tour, my co-author Philip Reeve and I drove down to Kingsbridge in South Devon (near Totnes), where we'd been commissioned to paint an Adventuremice-themed window for The Harbour Bookshop. (Here's a link if you're interested in the bookshop's connection to Christopher Robin Milne, of Winnie-the-Pooh fame!) Philip and I hadn't painted a window for ages (not since the Kevin window for Waterstones Covent Garden way back in 2018). My Posca pens had dried out and I'd binned them before Stuart and I moved to Devon. So Philip and I got some new pens and set to work afresh! And here's the final window, we were pretty pleased with how it turned out! Booksellers Jane and Louise said they'd leave it up until Christmas, so if you're at all in the area, do pop by to see it (and get a signed and doodled copy of Adventuremice: Otter Chaos)! The Harbour Bookshop is a lovely shop and, gosh, is it bustling! The shop was always full of people, some locals and many out-of-town visitors. We weren't doing a formal sit-down event, but we ended up signing lots of copies of the book while we were working on the window and it was fun to hear where people came from. During our lunch break, we got to meet up with a local artist whose work I really admire, Jane Foster. She's illustrated lots of baby board books, with her clean, strong, graphic lines, and produces beautiful merchandise for her website. We have the same agent, Jodie Hodges, and we've briefly chatted at crowded Illustrator Showcase parties in London, but it was great having a quieter place to talk. Thanks for taking time to meet up with us, Jane! Here are our terrific hosts, Jane & Louise, who kept us fed with amazing cakes from nearby Fika Coffee House. Oh, and a special shout-out for Charlotte from Harvest Moon, who sorted me out for a quick-fix felt sunflower fascinator when I forgot to pack my hat this morning (heaven forbid!). AND she ran the book I left on the counter back to the bookshop... thank you!!! Next stop on our Southwest Tour: The Bookery in Crediton this Thursday 23 March at 3:30pm - Register here on their website!
