printer question

I had an amazing Epson Stylus Photo 1290 that printed A3 pages that looked as good as the original artwork. But it sucked up LOADS of ink and when one colour ran out, I had to replace the whole colour cartridge (£35 a pop). I could get away with using cheapo black cartridges but it clogged if I used anything but Epson colour cartridges. (Now it’s old and broken.)

Can anyone recommend a good A3 colour printer that will go almost or right to the edge of the paper and not cost a bomb to feed ink? Maybe with separate colour cartridges?

I would recommend any of the A3 printers from Canon. They all use seperate ink tanks and produce stunning results. Which model to go for very much depends on your budget.

Hey, thanks for that, another vote for Canon! Kate Brown just said she had a great Canon Pixma Pro9000, and she thinks there might be an updated version of it now.

    Cheers!

I was going to rec the Canon Pixma Pro9000 as well…I was bidding on second hand on ebay but sadly got out bid so will just have to fork out the full price. I had them rec’d via Matt Bernier who got one and talks about it his comic tools blog – http://comictool.blogspot.com/2009/08/this-week-eraser-rub-off-howdy-comic.html#links

A number of people have talked about doing a continus ink system to save ink/money….there’s a few places online explaining how to do it. It looks complicated but is meant to save a bucket load on ink use.
