courtauld visit

My Glasgow auntie came through London today, and we went to the Courtauld Gallery on the Strand. That place has the most brilliant staircases. From the entrance, they spiral up very gracefully. But if you go downstairs, they meander in this elegant but almost sloppy way. I don’t know who designed the stairs, but they remind me a bit of this fabulous Russian architect named Fyodor Shekhtel. One of the things for which Shekhtel’s most well known is a crazy staircase in the Gorky House Museum.

Last night I went to see the exhibition of Camberwell’s MA Illustration group at the Waterloo Gallery. Don’t miss it if you’re in the area (behind Waterloo station and across from the Old Vic). The show runs until this Saturday.
