But my last day and a half wasn't like that at all, when I went to stay with new friends in the heart of the city, in Montmartre! (If you've seen \u003Ca href=\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWedygCWODY\">\u003Ci>Amelie\u003C/i>\u003C/a>, yes, just there.) ...\u003Ci>I've a feeling we're not in London anymore, Lettuce!\u003C/i>\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/vern_lettuce_paris-172619e271.gif\">\\r\n\\r\nI knew the Brink-Morrisons a little bit from some of my events, and \u003Ca href=\"http://jabberworks.livejournal.com/338149.html\">I'd interviewed Emma for my blog\u003C/a> and \u003Ca href=\"http://jabberworks.livejournal.com/343635.html\">posted another interview\u003C/a> when she won a big illustration prize, but I was rather red-cheeked when I plucked up the nerve to ring them up, out of the blue and say, 'Um, would you mind if I crashed on your sofa for a night?' But they were lovely and welcoming, and we got up to all sorts of drawing fun. Here's us all sketching on said sofa! (Although they gave me a bed, I didn't sleep on the sofa after all.) Emma drew me on the left, Luc drew himself in the middle, and I drew Emma on the right.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/paris_sofa-d1030b9997.gif\">\\r\n\\r\nI had a great time going through the whole family's sketchbooks. They're English, and when Barbara grew up in Oxford, she had \u003Ca href=\"http://www.philip-pullman.com/\">Philip Pullman\u003C/a> as her English teacher. He even wrote a bit of his book \u003Ci>Count Karlstein\u003C/i> for her, to act out in the school play! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/brink_morrisons-2805f2987d.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003C!--more Click here for lots more drawings, photos and comics under the cut!-->\\r\nBarbara and Rob both trained as architects, although Barbara works more with graphic design these days, and has a real love of pattern, which you can often see in the glimpses of Paris on her \u003Ca href=\"http://bbonthebrink.blogspot.com/\">amazing photo blog\u003C/a>: \\r\n\u003Ca href=\"http://bbonthebrink.blogspot.com/\">\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/bbrink_header-6c0af11746.jpg\">\u003C/a>\\r\n\\r\nBarbara's had a lot of experience doing graphic design on publications for clients such as UNESCO, and if you're interested in commissioning someone who works fluently in English, French and some Swiss-German, you can see \u003Ca href=\"http://barbara-brink.com/\">her design portfolio here\u003C/a>:\\r\n\u003Ca href=\"http://barbara-brink.com/\">\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/bbrink_graphic-99cfdf9963.jpg\">\u003C/a>\\r\n\\r\nThey live in a house that they converted from a garage space, and it's amazing, all the architectural tricks they used to make it a truly beautiful, full-of-light place to live. Amazing!\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/les_fusains_2-0599706bfe.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nWe picked up lunch from a bakery with a mouth-watering assortment of pastries and confections... and MACAROONS! With fresh raspberries! I don't think there's a more perfect sweet in the world than this \u003Ci>objet d'art\u003C/i>:\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/macaroon-38ccc335fc.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nHere's the bakery, \u003Ca href=\"http://www.coquelicot-montmartre.com/intro.php\">Coquelicot\u003C/a> (which means 'poppy'), on 24 rue des Abbesses. I am partly just blogging it so I don't forget the address and I can go straight back there next time I'm in Paris!
