I've been doing intensive school visits today and Stuart's been traipsing about town, and we're both crashing in our guesthouse lounge having a rest before the official \u003Ca href=\"http://silkfestival.no/in-english/\">SILK Festival\u003C/a> Opening Ceremony this evening. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/skudeneshavn_29oct14_1_zpsf73c15dc-c180133d0e.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nWe're staying in the same town I \u003Ca href=\"http://jabberworks.livejournal.com/622337.html\">visited in February, Skudeneshavn\u003C/a>, and it's great getting a chance to show Stuart around. (\u003Ci>And if you're a burglar in England reading this, we have a big, scary German looking after our flat, so don't get any ideas.\u003C/i>) We're staying at the guesthouse on the far right:\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/skudeneshavn_29oct14_3_zps5ead242a-e48c658dfc.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nSo here was my first visit this morning, to \u003Ca href=\"http://www.minskole.no/grindhaug"\">Grindhaug Primary School\u003C/a>, where I showed the 11- and 12-year-olds how I made the \u003Ci>Jampires\u003C/i> picture book with \u003Ca href=\"http://davidoconnell.uk/\">David O'Connell\u003C/a> (and the original comic book that inspired it). I led the group in drawing their own Jampire, then we talked about our favourite foods and designed creatures that could steal other food - Pizzapires, Chocopires, Spareribpires, etc. Then we used our characters to write stories in a big Comics Jam! Everyone finished with a four-panel comic, but each panel was drawn by a different person, so no one knew how their story would turn out. (When I explained about the word 'jamming' meaning something other than sticky fruit spread, they all knew the \u003Ca href=\"http://youtu.be/oFRbZJXjWIA\">Bob Marley song\u003C/a>, so that was good.) \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/Grindhaug_primary_SILKfest14_zps8fa87a8b-e95b48f89c.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAnd here's the second group, same ages, at \u003Ca href=\"http://www.minskole.no/norheim\">Norheim Primary School\u003C/a>! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/norheim_primary_silkfest14_zps2d0aa44a-0e24f596d7.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003C!--more Click here for more under the cut...-->\\r\nI had a few minutes before all the kids were assembled when I could draw this poster for them:\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/norheim_poster_silk14_zps0ca44ed7-15f5783000.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nBig thanks to everyone who looked after me for the day, including \u003Cb>John Rullestad\u003C/b> (not pictured here), Head of the Department of Culture, \u003Cb>Jan Arve Hveding\u003C/b> (who popped in to say hello), the culture coordinator (let me check her name!) and Head of Karmøy libraries \u003Cb>Hanna Mulelid\u003C/b>.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/norheim_silk14_zpscea1ec72-2944d6b6e8.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAfter Hanna drove me back to Skudenshavn, Stuart and I retired to the festival Green Room, where we found Norwegian writer \u003Ca href=\"http://www.arnesvingen.no/\">Arne Svingen\u003C/a>, who'd joined us at dinner the previous evening. (And if you look here on my website, you can read \u003Ca href=\"http://jabberworks.livejournal.com/668539.html\">a comic I made recently\u003C/a> and find more comics \u003Ca href=\"http://www.jabberworks.co.uk/my-comics/\">here\u003C/a>.)\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/norway_comicsjam8b_zpsc975a8c0-9a13f29cb3.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nA lot of the kids had never made any comics, so I was impressed with how well they did.
