Philip Reeve and I got to see the new \u003Cb>\u003Ca href=\"http://www.foundrygroup.co.uk/?page_id=3379\">Pugs of the Frozen North show\u003C/a>\u003C/b>, based on \u003Ca href=\"https://jabberworks.co.uk/pugs-of-the-frozen-north/\">our book\u003C/a>! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/879894_original-ae6be8e100.jpg\" alt=\"PugsShow_poster.jpg\" title=\"PugsShow_poster.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nHere we are on the train to Brighton with my husband Stuart, Philip's \u003Ci>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-illustrated-world-of-mortal-engines/philip-reeve/jeremy-levett/9781407186788\">The Illustrated World of Mortal Engines\u003C/a>\u003C/i> co-author \u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/jeremylev3tt\">Jeremy Levett\u003C/a>, and artist \u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/ValisaHigman\">Valisa Higman\u003C/a>, who's from the town of Seldovia, Alaska, the real-life inspiration for Snowdovia in our story. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/880275_original-e14df88851.jpg\" alt=\"PugsShow_poster.jpg\" title=\"PugsShow_poster.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAnd it was terrific!!! \u003Ci>The Pugs of the Frozen North\u003C/i> story has a huge cast of characters, but in the show, they're all played by just THREE actors, which works remarkably well and makes the show even funnier. And who plays the necessary SIXTY-SIX PUGS? Why, the audience, of course! Yip yip! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/880490_original-5ea321ddac.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/880705_original-193ccb0507.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\u003Ci>Photos by Louise Clarkson, \u003Ca href=\"https://jabberworks.co.uk/pugs-of-the-frozen-north/\">knitted pug\u003C/a> by Lauren O'Farrell (aka Deadly Knitshade)\u003C/i>\\r\n\\r\nI knew two of the actors, \u003Ca href=\"http://www.foundrygroup.co.uk/?page_id=2\">Brian Mitchell\u003C/a> and \u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/TheLadyAmelia\">Amy Sutton\u003C/a>, from their earlier play with Philip, \u003Ci>\u003Ca href=\"https://jabberworks.livejournal.com/791854.html\">The Ministry of Biscuits\u003C/a>\u003C/i>. (Brian co-wrote both plays with Philip and composed the music.) \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/881260_original-b2e5d3a179.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nThis time they were joined by \u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/SellPen\">Joshua Crisp\u003C/a>, who played Shen, a yeti, a Snowdovia sports commentator, and possibly quite a few other things. And two solid chairs did a lot of hard work as a sled, a bed, and a shedload of snow.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/881025_original-3048058f10.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003C!--more Click here for lots more under the cut!-->\\r\nThey used some of my drawings for props! Here's Helga Hammerfest with her two polar bears, Snowdrop and Slushpuppy. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/881503_original-a45a34d291.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\n(I only drew this last week - they were fast!)\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/881779_original-b917e4742b.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nHere's Amy, playing a magnificent Helga. (She's so strong, she can lift a polar bear! We're not sure if it's Snowdrop or Slushpuppy.) \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/882008_original-5d2cb622ef.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nAnd here are my people! These are children from '\u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/search?q=%233mcintyre&amp;src=typed_query&amp;f=live\">3 McIntyre\u003C/a>', a class that for two years has been named after me at nearby \u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/GlebePri\">Glebe Primary School\u003C/a>. The librarian \u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/Glebelove2read\">Kate Gieler\u003C/a> and teachers really took on board the idea of children coming to books through illustration and learning about the work of illustrators, so they named all their classes after children's book illustrators. (How cool is that!) \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/882422_original-ea23a4f282.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nThanks so much for all your support, Glebe Primary!
