Who's This Guy?\u003C/a>, but arrived at the party too late and missed the whole thing. Argh! So this week I made amends, and while Philip Reeve was visiting for the Science Fiction panel event, we went back. And it's fabulous! Look at these dudes!\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/feltmistress_nobrow12_1-fe2ca79dc2.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003Ca href=\"http://www.feltmistress.com/\">Feltmistress\u003C/a> (\u003Cb>Louise Evans\u003C/b>) and \u003Ca href=\"http://www.jonathan-e.com/\">Jontofski\u003C/a> (\u003Cb>Jonathan Edwards\u003C/b>) are this amazing couple who live over in Wales and produce mind-boggling amounts of some of the best artwork you'll see in Britain today. You might recognise Jonathan's work from The Guardian Guide, and Louise used to specialise in making wedding dresses, but I think she's making her felt creations pretty much full time now. They work together on them, Jonathan making drawings and Louise crafting them. Often Louise won't be allowed by her clients to post images of the finished work right away, but she'll take photos of details and post them on Instagram, and I love seeing them come up. His name's O'goob, and apparently he was surrounded by a celestial ring of \u003Ca href=\"http://www.tunnock.co.uk/\">Tunnock's teacakes\u003C/a> at the opening, but they've all been snarfed up. (Hey, did you see that Philip's \u003Ca href=\"http://www.philipreeve.blogspot.co.uk/\">Predator Cities quartet\u003C/a> has been republished in the USA with brand-new covers? Americans, go get these books, starting with \u003Ca href=\"http://www.amazon.com/Predator-Cities-1-Mortal-Engines/dp/0545222117/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1338368079&sr=8-3\">\u003Ci>Mortal Engines\u003C/i>\u003C/a>; you're in for a treat.)\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/feltmistress_nobrow12_4-5f794b5076.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nIf you haven't been to \u003Ca href=\"http://www.nobrow.net/\">Nobrow\u003C/a> yet, do go have a look! They're an amazing example of a bunch of people who had a love for a certain aesthetic and set up their own publishing company, which is ever growing and expanding. The Nobrow aesthetic features limited palettes of flat colours with a screen-printed look, with a modern twist on folk art, and lovely paper that smells wonderful when you crack open their comics and art books. Their London shop is located on Great Eastern Street and the nearest station is Shoreditch High Street. They're also a great presence at indie comics festivals, so look out for their tables.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/feltmistress_nobrow12_5-8dc870a3ce.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nHere's a peek into their back room. So many lovely books!\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/feltmistress_nobrow12_6-bc9086ecf5.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nIf you're looking for a good place to eat after your visit, you can't beat \u003Ca href=\"http://www.thebreakfastclubcafes.com/\">The Breakfast Club\u003C/a>, which we discovered while wandering about near Hoxton Square. But look out, one of the customers has been sitting in the back corner for an awful long time and he's a terrible conversationalist.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/breakfast_club-df7c227977.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nWe were trying to find a computer supply shop to get a memory stick for my next-day event in Oxford, and saw an odd collection of stone fountains and garden ornaments in front of an old church building. Curious, we poked our noses in the front door and, oh, my! It was like we wandered into somewhere you'd only find in a book.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/westland_london_1-1cf794d2f2.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nIt's a treasure trove of reclaimed odds and ends, possibly the world's largest, I can't imagine anything more extensive. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/westland_london_4-7f9ff71f9d.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nThe rooms go on and on, and you never know what you're going to find next. It's like a museum, except much less predictable. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/westland_london_2-b50d598dc1.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nDo have a peek if you're in the area! It's called \u003Ca href=\"http://www.westlandlondon.com/\">Westland London\u003C/a> and it's rather magic.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/westland_london_3-f72b8f54a8.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nJust one more thing; after my day pirating in Oxford, we stopped by Waterstone's Oxford Plaza for geek cake. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/geekhood_3-d65bab82c6.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAnd great costumes! This guy from Stripes publishing house whipped up this baby in the office that day with a bit of cardboard, ink and packing tape. NIIIIICE.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/geekhood_6-e7bedc44c9.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nHere's the reason for the party: \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/geekhood_1-4f3e6ff6cd.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAnd here's the author, \u003Ca href=\"http://theandyrobbsite.co.uk/?page_id=21\">Andy Robb\u003C/a>, with \u003Ca href=\"http://www.philipreeve.blogspot.co.uk/\">Philip Reeve\u003C/a> and golden-caped \u003Ca href=\"http://www.louiestowell.com/\">Louie Stowell\u003C/a>.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/geekhood_2-7f2e8fc9a9.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAh, and here on the right is YA book review \u003Ca href=\"http://www.sisterspooky.co.uk/\">Sister Spooky\u003C/a>, looking very Geek Glam.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/geekhood_5-032d21bfcf.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nI was the first to dive into the cupcakes but Philip took time to get his photographed first.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/geekhood_4-c2e4609f3b.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nWe were surrounded by Stormtroopers and elves and superheroes, which felt worryingly normal, as they're just like the costumes I usually see at comics festivals (such as \u003Ca href=\"http://jabberworks.livejournal.com/tag/mcm%20expo\">MCM Expo\u003C/a>). Does this mean my social circle are geeks, or is geek going mainstream? \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/geekhood_7-3dcbdb7251.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nI suppose we could read \u003Ci>Geekhood\u003C/i> and we might get some insight into this.
