It's a very small school - sixty-something children - but a group of parents got together and helped turn a storage room into a lovely reading space, with assistance from The Bookery in stocking it with their recommended bundles of \u003Ca href=\"https://thebookery.org.uk/schools/#top-titles-x\">Top Titles\u003C/a>. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1234832_original-c486e833ac.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nPhilip and I cut the ribbon and, I suspect the journalist who was there got better pictures, with posed children, but you can get the gist! We're so glad Yeoford children will have this dedicated reading space. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1235111_original-e4b8a04980.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003C!--more Click here for lots more under the cut!-->\\r\nWe presented our new book to them, \u003Ci>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.adventuremice.com/books/otter-chaos\">Adventuremice: Otter Chaos\u003C/a>\u003C/i>, and taught then how to draw Pedro. Then they helped us come up with weird and wonderful ideas for invented islands! Here's the island that sprang up on Philip's watch, Silly Flower Island: \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1235632_original-eb1e7b360c.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nAnd my suggestion-providers came up with the Cheesy-Crab Island of BAM. (You can get to Silly Flower Island by hopping into the whirlpool below.) \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1235422_original-5f46789e6c.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nEven though it wasn't part of the activity, I was pleased to see that a lot of the children drew islands along with us, and it was fun to see those at the end! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1235869_original-f6721ea87f.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nThank you for drawing with us, Yeoford Primary! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1236733_original-4b22e3ab18.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nFor lunch, Cathy and \u003Cb>Dee Lalljee\u003C/b> took us to the amazing \u003Ca href=\"https://www.greatbritishlife.co.uk/food-and-drink/22583995.middle-eastern-cuisine---baobab-cafe/\">Baobab Café \u003C/a>and Lebanese owner Eran Hovav served us up some real delights. Thank you, Eran! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1236080_original-0a33050be2.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nWe made a second school visit to \u003Cb>Haywards Primary School\u003C/b>, but they'd adopted a new safeguarding policy that meant they tried to confiscate our phones before we'd even gone in, and there was no way we were going to get a single photo of anything. Anyway, it was a good visit, but I don't have any pictures to share. \\r\n\u003Ci>Edit: A single photos has surfaced! I think Cathie got permission to take this one:\u003C/i>\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1238591_original-a425bcfb7b.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nWhen we got back to the bookshop for the final public signing, writer-illustrator \u003Ca href=\"https://claireflewis.com/\">Claire Lewis\u003C/a> had brought in these gorgeous Adventuremice cakes from the bakery just down the road. And there was a big Adventuremice display in the window! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/1236448_original-a477893450.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nHuge thanks to schools and The Bookery team for looking after us today, and another \u003Cb>ENORMOUS thanks goes to the anonymous sponsor\u003C/b> (a former publishing person) who donated enough money for ALL the children to take home a free signed copy of \u003Ci>Adventuremice: Otter Chaos\u003C/i>! She is the real star here; every single child, regardless of their means, was able to have their own book.
