[{"data":1,"prerenderedAt":11},["ShallowReactive",2],{"blog-post-jan-pienkowski-booktrust-lifetime-achievement-award":3},{"_type":4,"body":5,"bodyHtml":6,"excerpt":5,"featuredImage":5,"publishedAt":7,"slug":8,"tags":9,"title":10},"blogPost",null,"Congratulations to \u003Cb>\u003Cfont size=\"3\">Jan Pienkowski\u003C/b>\u003C/font> for more than 50 years of creating over 160 beautiful books! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/709954_original-882433e3e8.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nYesterday morning, as one of BookTrust's former Writer-Illustrators in Residence, I got to go to the \u003Cb>Lifetime Achievement Award\u003C/b> celebration in the Barbican's Garden Room. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/710382_original-92aae6234f.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nI first met Jan \u003Ca href=\"https://jabberworks.livejournal.com/819704.html\">in 2006\u003C/a> at John Huddy's Illustration Cupboard, but I hadn't seen him for several years and it was great to see him again. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/710434_original-050c6cb623.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nYou might know Jan for his much-loved Meg & Mog books, or perhaps his beautifully silhouetted fairytale stories. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/710842_original-80b4f00b25.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nQuite a few of my other illustration heroes showed up, too! It was great to see \u003Cb>Helen Oxenbury\u003C/b>, who won the award last year, together with her late husband John Birmingham. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/711228_original-01a623fb9c.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003C!--more Click here for more photos under the cut!-->\\r\nBeautiful papercut sculptures around the room echoed Jan's own use of cut paper. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/711090_original-0f75f9bcee.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">\\r\n\\r\nAuthor \u003Cb>Smriti Prasadam-Halls\u003C/b> (left) gave a beautifully moving talk about Jan's work and career, as did SF Said, Nicolette Jones and Diana Gerald, and then the man who knows him best, Jan's partner, David Walser.
