Independent bookshops all around Britain are having parties to celebrate and you can do your bit for the indies by popping down to one of them, buying a book, and tweeting a photo of it with yourself and the bookshop under the hashtag \u003Ca href=\"https://twitter.com/search?q=%23booksaremybag&src=typd&f=realtime\">#BooksAreMyBag\u003C/a>! Here's my choice of book:\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/laika_owen_davey_1_zps8d057f72-14340ff9a2.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nActually, I will try to buy one today; I got the jump on the festivities by getting this yesterday, and then lovely \u003Cb>Frances and Peter Hopkins\u003C/b> at \u003Ca href=\"https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=urmston+bookshop&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&gws_rd=cr&ei=1Sc0UuqKGYOE4AScy4GICA\">Urmston Bookshop\u003C/a> wouldn't let me pay for it. (We almost had a row about it.) So today I really must fork out a few pounds for something nice. But check out THIS one! I hadn't heard about it and \u003Ca href=\"http://www.owendavey.com/Laika\">\u003Ci>Laika the Astronaut\u003C/i>\u003C/a> by \u003Cb>Owen Davey\u003C/b> stopped me in my tracks when I passed it on display in Urmston.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/urmston_bookshop_visit_zpsd5c12633-69d4fef24d.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003C!--more Click here for more under the cut!-->\\r\nIsn't it gorgeous? I'd read \u003Cb>Nick Abadzis\u003C/b>' graphic novel, \u003Ca href=\"http://www.nickabadzis.com/laika/\">\u003Ci>Laika\u003C/a>\u003C/i> and this book's very different, so I'm glad to see there are two lovely Laika books out there. A space dog, what's not to like?\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/laika_owen_davey_3_zps345fb460-4fb818db9b.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\n...Ah yes, there is the little fact that Laika didn't survive the journey. I was very curious how Owen Davey would handle that. But there's quite a creative solution, with one of the prettiest spreads in the book, right at the end. (But I won't show it, SPOILERS!)\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/laika_owen_davey_2_zps368dbb50-02fcee1d01.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAh, and after I uploaded these photos, I realised that Owen had much better images on his website, so \u003Ca href=\"http://www.owendavey.com/Laika\">toodle on there to see some amazing artwork\u003C/a>.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/laika_owen_davey_4_zps4c606947-cb6f2037c5.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAlso, \u003Cb>Stephen Collins\u003C/b> has a great comic strip in today's \u003Ci>Guardian\u003C/i>! It's called \u003Ca href=\"http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/cartoon/2013/sep/14/2#\">DAD SCIENCE\u003C/a>.\\r\n\\r\nAnd \u003Ci>Oliver and the Seawigs\u003C/i> is \u003Cb>\u003Ci>The Times\u003C/i> Children's Book of the Week\u003C/b>!
