My three-mile mama managed nine miles! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/parents_sofa_zps000c211b-ebea8ad70a.gif\">\\r\n\\r\nThere used to be a beautiful railway line running from Manchester, but in the 1960's, a loathed man named Mr Beeching shut down loads of them, including this one. But instead of being built on, or allowed to go wild, this 8.5-mile stretch was turned into a hiking path, called the \u003Ca href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsal_Trail\">Monsal Trail\u003C/a>. It's fun, you chug along just like a train and pull into stations. And very even and flat, perfect for mamas with sore knees who like lemonade and coffees along the way. Hassop station's been turned into a lovely cafe:\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail1_zpsedcd88ac-328dcde2af.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nI made a sketch of Mama at the second cafe, where we had lunch. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_mum_zps83326f56-8eec617e95.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\n\u003C!--more Click for more under the cut!-->\\r\nThe view from the cafe was pretty awesome, we had to hike up a little path, up to \u003Ca href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsal_Dale\">Monsal Dale\u003C/a>, but it was totally worth it. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail5_zps814c23d2-a336735176.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nStuart and me, we're such intrepid explorers... \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail3_zpsff1bc78b-dfe4f40652.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAnother station; this one looked so quintessentially English, with all the white-legged picnickers sitting along the platform with their flasks of tea.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail2_zps613f3d1a-bef8e18b1a.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nThis tin house looked like something out of an old Western film. Actually, with all the jagged cliffs and interesting earth formations, I did feel like I'd gone onto a set for \u003Ca href=\"http://www.jabberworks.co.uk/when-titus-took-the-train/\">\u003Ci>When Titus Took the Train\u003C/i>\u003C/a>. \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail7_zps3b53bb02-40474c7132.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nAnd tunnels. Tunnels!\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail8_zps02b396af-77b42c5df9.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nWe walked through loads of them, and a couple of them looked a bit scary. Some of them had a wonderful hokey music soundtrack blasting out of a little wooden box on a pole, that we could wind up and let play as we walked through.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail4_zpscfe7d05b-abdc30698c.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nWe didn't die.\\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_monsal_trail6_zpscc724d5c-788b7ef73f.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nActually, better than that, we got back to Bakewell and I tried my first \u003Ca href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakewell_pudding\">BAKEWELL PUDDING\u003C/a>. Which loads of people had told me would be better than the more ubiquitous \u003Ca href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakewell_tart\">Bakewell Tart\u003C/a>. The pud was delish! \\r\n\\r\n\u003Cimg src=\"https://images.jabberworks.co.uk/lj/peaks14_bakewell_pudding_zps536bf0de-d99a2e4d91.jpg\">\\r\n\\r\nBig thanks to \u003Ca href=\"http://www.peakcottages.com/\">Peak Cottages\u003C/a> for a lovely stay.
