attack the block: south london alien invasion!

Exciting news, Joel Stokes, the son of a family we’re friends with, has been working with his long-time neighbour buddy Joe Cornish (of the Adam and Joe Show) on a film in our part of town! We listen to Adam and Joe a lot in the studio, and Joe’s set his film in the Heygate council estate (or ‘project’, if you’re American) where Stuart used to live when he first moved out of his parents’ house. Joel’s title is something like ‘Creature Assistant’ and he got to learn a lot about alien prosthetics.

The film includes fab actor Nick Frost, whom you may remember from the cast of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Stuart and I were watching Shaun of the Dead on video and suddenly started yelling and had to stop it for another look when we realised it was filmed three streets away from our house! (Here’s my blog post about the location.) Joel was one of the zombies in that film. Go visit the Attack the Block website, there’s lots of stuff to look at. His mum says that she went to see it on the night that the press and critics were invited, and the audience gave the film a big ovation at the end. I can’t wait to see it!
