start ’em young

Here’s some more Vern & Lettuce comics love, for joedecie‘s new baby. I was going to do the baby in a pram or something, but I was still smitten with Jessica McLeod’s idea of space rabbits, so I thought I’d design a two-person space suit for Lettuce and the little guy. (I’ll do one more, hopefully tomorrow, for tedprior.)

I recently went to Gosh! Comics by the British Museum and bought a copy of We can still be friends by German comics artist Mawil. He tells stories about his younger-day unfulfilled crushes, and the drawings and tonal work are beautiful. Coming from a children’s book perspective, the line work reminds me very much of one of my all-time favourite writer-illustrators, Satoshi Kitamura.
