perfect work station

Hurrah! Today’s our official launch date for You Can’t Eat a Princess! (In hardback and paperback!) Which feels a bit odd, because it’s already been selling for a week and we’re not doing a big party thing with Scholastic til later in the month. But still. Hurrah!

I’ve been working on this brilliant book with The Two Davids, David O’Connell and David Fickling. But David Fickling is the pickiest publisher/editor on the planet (which is just one of the reasons he’s possibly the world’s best editor), so Dave and I have had to rewrite the script about five times now. So after the fourth script went kaput with Hannah, before it even got to David, I took it to town with me while I was running some errands (including buying princess tiara beads). I was going to set up shop in the atrium of the Wallace Collection, but I noticed this deli, Paul Rothe & Sons, along the way and ended up at one of the tables, having a big lunch and getting loads of work done.

Here are two of the dashing deli men, Paul and Stephen, and some of the fabulous old-time sweets they sell in the shop:

You can see more interesting photos of the place here. Marylebone Lane is so fab, it even has its own button shop! Princess Spaghetti would love this place.
