liquid comics

I’ve been making full-colour comics like mad for the last couple weeks, and I got into this discussion with my editor about what I drink while I make them.

Today I went completely stir crazy from working at home and braved the rain storm to walk to Greenwich for a coffee at the Picture House. And I also just happened to stop in at the pound shop and buy a copy of Ted Hughes’ The Dreamfighter and other Creation Tales and Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. This, despite the fact that I am going to a massive book fair in Bologna the day after tomorrow and will probably come home with a whole pack of books. (But they were only £2…) The coffee was great, I managed to write two more comic episodes.

I recently got a great packet of books from Write Away to review, all fascinating and sophisticated in their own ways. I perhaps got a little bit carried away, and then didn’t have time to give them proper reflection in case I said anything really stupid, but here they are:

Edwina: the Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct by Mo Willems
Beware of the Frog by William Bee
Dudley the Daydreamer by Anders Brundin and Joanna Rubin Dranger (She’s Swedish and her website’s a corker!)

One more thing before I head off to Italy…
Lookybook features an amazing version of Jabberwocky, illustrated by Canadian Stéphane Jorisch. Have a look, it’s brilliant!
Edit: I looked it up, this book is part of a Visions in Poetry series, and it looks like this publisher is commissioning some really high-quality illustration.
